Habilitation means the process by which a person is assisted

Habilitation means procedures and interventions designed to assist a mentally ill, drug dependent or alcohol-dependent person eighteen (18) years of age or older to achieve greater physical, mental and social development by enhancing the well-being of the person and teaching skills which increase the possibility that the resident will make progressively independent and responsible decisions about social behavior, quality of life, job satisfaction and personal relationships.

Habilitation means an effort directed toward the alleviation of a disability or toward increasing an individual’s level of physical, mental, social, or economic functioning. Habilitation may include diagnosis, evaluation, medical services, residential care, day care, special living arrangements, training, education, sheltered employment, protective services, and counseling.

Examples of Habilitation in a sentence

• Rehabilitation Services and Habilitation Services may be provided in the Provider’s office, in a Hospital as an inpatient, in an outpatient facility, or as home health care visits.

• Custodial Care, respite care, day care, therapeutic recreation, vocational training and residential treatment are not Habilitation Services.

• Any occupational therapy services which do not consist of traditional physical therapy modalities and which are not part of an active multi-disciplinary physical rehabilitation program designed to restore lost or impaired body function, except as may be provided under the Benefits for Rehabilitation Services, Benefits for Habilitation Services and Benefits for Autism Spectrum Disorder provision in the Special Provisions Expenses portion of this Benefit Booklet.
