Special Bus Runs. Any bus run not regularly scheduled on a daily basis shall be considered to be a special bus run. Special bus runs will be offered to regular drivers on a rotating basis starting with the most senior employee. In the event that no regular driver volunteers for the run, it may be offered to irregular employees. If no irregular employee volunteers for the run, it may be assigned to regular drivers on a rotating basis starting with the least senior employee. Employees shall be paid at their regular straight time rate for all hours spent actually driving such special bus run, and at the waiting time rate for all additional time that the employee is not relieved from duty; but the time spent in these activities shall not be counted for purposes of determining full time or regular part-time status, or for the calculation of paid sick leave. Bus drivers and the bus shall remain at the event they have driven students to while the event is in progress. If a lunch period is required, the driver may leave the event to obtain a meal per section 8.3. Under no other circumstances are drivers to leave the event unless they deem it an emergency. In the event that a special bus run is canceled after a driver has been assigned and the employee reports for the run in a timely manner, the employee will be paid for two (2) hours at the straight time rate of pay if they were not provided with at least (45) forty-five minutes telephonic notification of the cancellation.
