Notification and Posting of Vacancies. 2. Notwithstanding any other provision of this contract or any contrary provision of law, if the Board hires an individual who has retired pursuant to the requirements of STRS, during his/her employment with the Board that individual will be employed under one-year contracts that are automatically non-renewed without Board action or notice to the retiree. The retiree will receive service credit for no more than ten (10) years of previous service. Once employed, the retiree shall be placed on the appropriate education column of the salary schedule and shall not advance beyond step 10 in experience regardless of years of service in Fairfield Union Local Schools or elsewhere. This teacher shall receive increases in pay resulting from an increase in the base salary.

For any unit member position that is to be filled, an announcement of that position shall be distributed via district email as soon as possible after the decision by the Board to fill the position has been made. Said position shall not be filled until the notice has been posted for at least five (5) days. The Board reserves the right to fill or not fill any vacant position. When the Board decides to fill the vacancy it shall have the sole right to determine the best qualified individual. Factors to be considered in filling positions shall include, but are not limited to, the following:
