Absences and Leaves In the event that one member of the job/time sharing arrangement is off due to illness or injury or goes on any other leave of absence, the remaining partner will endeavour to cover all of the absent partner’s shifts for the duration of the absence. If the employee is unable to cover the absences, she or he must inform the Director of Resident Care or designate.
Maternity Disability Leave 14.1.13.1 This leave commences with the onset of disablement due to pregnancy. The employee may claim sick leave pay and/or extended disability pay for no more than that limited period of time when the employee’s physician certified in writing on the form provided by the District that she was actually physically disabled from performing her duties because of pregnancy, miscarriage, childbirth, or recovery there from.
MATERNITY LEAVE OF ABSENCE A Maternity Leave of Absence will be granted, subject to the following:
Pregnancy Disability Leave A. Leave for pregnancy or childbirth related disability is in addition to any leave granted under FMLA or WFLA.
Union Leave of Absence An employee on an unpaid Union leave of absence shall have her wages, benefits and seniority continued by the Employer, and the Union agrees to reimburse the Employer for the costs of such wages and benefits. Employees requesting leave under this article will provide the Employer with as much advance notice as possible of the dates of the leave. Where there are less than fifteen (15) regular employees at a workstation at the time the leave request is submitted, and subject to operational requirements, unpaid Union leave of absence will be granted to one employee for the purpose of conducting Union business. This would be an additional person on Union leave at worksites where the position of the Union President or Council member has been backfilled for the duration of their term of office. Maternity Leave (a) An employee is entitled to maternity leave of up to 17 weeks without pay.

Definition of Total Disability Total disability means that the employee is unable, because of sickness or accident, to perform the duties of their regular occupation. This definition applies for the first twenty-four (24) months of payments. After this time, the inability to perform an occupation for which the employee is reasonably fitted by training, education or experience will constitute total disability. It is not required that an employee be confined to home, but they must be under the regular care of a physician.
Parental Leave of Absence A. A female unit member may use any or all accumulated leave during pre- and post-natal care for that period of time she is temporarily disabled, as determined by the unit member and her physician.
Return from Leave of Absence (a) Before a Nurse may return to work from a leave granted under Article 9.00, she or he must provide a minimum of four (4) weeks written notice of the specific date of his or her return to work, or such shorter time as mutually agreed.
