Our Growing Practices Sample Clauses

Our Growing Practices. The farm operates using exclusively organic farming practices. Organic produce is grown without using specific conventional pesticides, herbicides, fertilisers made with synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge, bioengineering, or ionising radiation. Our plants are strong and resilient which increases their nutritional value. We brew compost teas, farm worms en masse, use compost, apply companion planting, cover crops, solarisation and mulching gardens to retain moisture in our soils and encourage the evolution of micro life to feed healthy root systems. For more information about organic production please ask. We’d be happy to tell you more.

Our Growing Practices. Our farm is non-certified organic, specializing in hydroponic tomatoes, mixed lettuce and cucumbers. Because of our investment in hydroponics we are able to start our CSA earlier in the spring and extend it later into the fall. Our CSA is salad and Tomato centric, meaning from week one through week 24 we have all the items needed to make the best salads you could dream of. We do not use any synthetic chemicals on our farm for weed or bug control. We have found other ways to control those environmental aspects to produce a clean, healthy product you can be proud to feed your family. Our animals are free range and pasture raised. Free-range animals are allowed continuous access to the outdoors during their production cycle. Pasture raised animals receive the majority of their nutrients from grass throughout their life. A small grain ration is given to all of our poultry to ensure the proper balance of protein and calcium for proper development and egg quality. The grain they receive is a non-GMO, Certified organic feed from Cashton Farm Supplies.
Our Growing Practices. The farm uses sustainable farming practices. Our sustainability statement is available for those who desire it. For further explanation, contact the farm.

Our Growing Practices. The produce we grow at Xxxx Grove Farm follows naturally grown standards. We utilize cultivation techniques that combine a carefully managed rotation of vegetable crops with cover crops to preserve soil fertility while protecting the soil’s structure, which in turn controls erosion, minimizes evaporation, and improves water infiltration. We use hand labor with simple agricultural tools along with a team of gentle and loving draft mules. They provide much of our farm’s motive power needs, from planting through cultivation and harvesting, minimizing our use of fossil fuels. Please refer to our website for additional information.

Our Growing Practices. The farm is not USDA Certified Organic and we do not anticipate applying for such status. We strive to produce healthy vegetables using natural methods of fertilizing, building soil, and controlling pests such as insects and weeds. Natural methods include but are not limited to using composted vegetable matter, grasses and leaves, composted and uncomposted animal manure, hand weeding, mechanical cultivation, and diatomaceous earth. In certain circumstances, when we deem it is necessary to save a crop, we may use chemicals on specific crops. In the case where chemicals are used we will inform our members what was used, when it was applied and to which crops it was applied.

Our Growing Practices. Farm Tours We are proud of the significant efforts we employ to minimize our environmental footprint while balancing the need to be economically viable. We have achieved this using a sound, structured IPM program. IPM is an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management that relies on a combination of scouting, timely action steps & overall knowledge – in regards to both the life cycles of the crops & the pests that prey on them. IPM programs use current, comprehensive information on the lifecycles of pests and their interaction with the environment. This information, in combination with available pest control methods, is used to manage pest damage by the most economical means, and with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment. A number of our crops are grown conventionally this way while others are grown completely chemically free – especially our greenhouse grown offerings which enjoy the advantages of growing in a controlled environment under the protection of a number of beneficial insects. Growing practices for each produce item will be outlined on our web site. Members will be notified of any changes to a particular practice due to unforeseen environmental damage or pest pressure. Interested in seeing how your produce is grown in person? We’d love to show you! Monthly group tours of our growing areas/facilities will be exclusively available to CSA members who will be notified via email with specific tour topics/dates beginning with greenhouse tours in March & followed by field & orchard tours through the spring & summer as various crops are planted, maintained & eventually harvested.
