Homecare assistant / Home helper The Family Assistant profession falls under the category of domestic work. The Civil Code (Chapter II, Articles 2240 to 2246) generally defines as domestic employment the one that covers the provision of services with domestic character; under the law n. 339/58 the domestic worker is the one who lends his work for the functioning of the family life. The employment relationship is regulated by the C.C.N.L (Domestic Labour ContractCollective bargaining agreement) which is valid from 01/07/2013 to 31/12/2016 (in force until the approval of the subsequent national contract). The Family Assistant has a vital role in providing much-needed assistance to old, disabled, and chronically ill populations within communities. They care for patients who are independently unable to maintain good hygiene, proper nutrition, and a clean living space. They may also assist with daily activities and recreation if needed by the patient. The Family Assistant is a trained figure that has the ability to identify the needs and physical and psychological issues of the patient. He also has skills related to communication, to the improvement of the living environment, care and assisted hygiene. He also has knowledge in geriatric field, first aid and food education. Since the Family Assistant figure is not nationally normed, reference is made to the regulation that may be present at regional level. The training courses for the Family Assistant, that are defined at regional level, represent an important element for regulating the field that this figure covers. The courses guarantee a basic level of competence, ensure the territorial validity of the license and they offer a professional growth path. Not all Italian regions have accurately defined the terms and content of the training program for Family Assistant, but among them there are: Tuscany, Lombardy, Campania, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Xxxxxx Romagna and Liguria. A Family Assistant Register has been created in some of the regions: the requirements differ from region to region, especially in terms of training, ranging from a minimum of 32 hours to a maximum of 300 hours. In some regions the Family Assistant has to provide a documented experience of at least 12 months. The contents of the training courses differ in relation to the number of hours foreseen.
