Emergency Leave/Sick Leave. Beginning May of 2023, each employee shall be entitled to one (1) day of paid emergency leave per twelve (12) month period. The number of days increases to two (2) days starting May 2024. Partial days count as a day, and only hours missed will be paid. Such leave may be taken in the event of:

Emergency Leave/Sick Leave. [to include Maternity Leave], Bereavement and Staff Funerals)‌ The Board of Education recognizes that absences by the teacher at various times throughout the year are unavoidable; however, any absence of the teacher from the classroom has a detrimental effect on the progress of the students. Additionally, the Board recognizes that these absences may be of an emergency nature over which the teacher has little or no control. Therefore, the Board of Education has established leave provisions which will aid in preventing undue hardship to the employee during the period of such emergencies. Any absence not provided for herein, or otherwise approved, or any abuse of the provisions of this leave policy may be grounds for disciplinary action, including termination or non-renewal of the employee’s contract. In such event as an employee’s absence from work is due to injury sustained in the course of employment, and for which the employee received Worker’s Compensation benefits, then the employee shall receive an additional sum from accumulated sick leave as shall cause the total benefits received by such employee to equal the average daily teaching contract rate for each day absent from work. In the case of emergency leave, there are two types: chargeable and non-chargeable. A chargeable leave is defined as one which will take away or deduct from the total accumulated emergency leave, while a non-chargeable leave is defined as one which will not take away or which will not deduct from the total accumulated emergency leave.

  • Emergency Leave Notwithstanding any provision for leave in this Agreement, the Employer may grant leave of absence with or without pay to an employee in emergency or unusual circumstances. Such leave will not be unreasonably denied.

  • Sick Leave/Personal Leave 1. Each member of the bargaining unit who is regular full-time, in an active pay status, is eligible for ten (10) days of sick leave and three (3) days of personal leave annually. No member of the bargaining unit shall lose the accumulated allowance of unused days of sick leave/personal leave by reason of having been absent for a period without pay, nor shall the employee accumulate any additional days of allowance during the absence. Faculty members needing to use sick/personal days shall fill out the requisite forms according to official College procedures.

  • Pregnancy Sick Leave Leave for illness of a Nurse arising out of or associated with a Nurse’s pregnancy prior to the commencement of, or the ending of, pregnancy leave granted in accordance with Article 13.00, may be granted sick leave in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Agreement.

  • Medical Leave of Absence Where you have a medical leave of absence due to any medically determinable physical or mental impairment that can be expected to result in death or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than six months, and you have not returned to employment with the Company or an Affiliate, a Separation from Service has occurred on the earlier of: (A) the first day on which you would not be considered “disabled” under any disability policy of the Company or Affiliate under which you are then receiving a benefit; or (B) the first day on which your medical leave of absence period exceeds 29 months.

  • SICK LEAVE AND BEREAVEMENT LEAVE Section 1. a. Employees shall be eligible to use paid sick leave after 30 calendar days of service with the Employer.   • Health Leave Any regular employee of the District may, at the discretion of the Board, be granted a leave of absence without pay for reasons of health, such leave to be specified for a period of not more than one year. Such leave may be extended in case of serious health conditions.

  • Personal Emergency Leave 1. A teacher will be granted up to five (5) days of leave per year to cover situations other than personal illness beyond the control of the teacher which would significantly impair teaching service. Deductions from the gross pay of a teacher for this leave shall be made at the degreed substitute rate of pay for each day taken.

  • Unpaid Personal Leave of Absence 1. Any employee may apply for an unpaid personal leave of absence for good and sufficient reason. Leave pursuant to this provision may be for a period not exceeding twelve (12) months in any fourteen (14) consecutive months. Such leave may be granted at the discretion of the appointing authority and shall not be unreasonably denied. Employees are encouraged to consult with their agency/department Personnel Officer to determine if they are eligible for benefits available under the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act. All requests for such leave and responses shall be in writing. The application for leave must specifically state the reasons for such application and the length of time requested. After completion of a period of personal leave of absence, the employee shall be entitled to return to the organizational unit, status and position held immediately prior to the beginning of the leave of absence. If the employee's position is abolished during any such leave, he/she shall be notified and allowed to exercise his/her rights under the Seniority Article of this Agreement.

  • Pregnancy Leave (a) Pregnancy leave will be granted in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Standards Act, except where amended in this provision.
