Unpaid Leave and Parental Leave. A Member who is on an unpaid leave or a parental leave or a leave without pay for a political campaign period, as defined in the Collective Agreement, shall not contribute to the Plan directly pursuant to Section 4.01 (Members' Required Contributions). The Member's contributions pursuant to Section 4.01 shall be paid on behalf of the Member by the University. The Member shall accrue benefits during such leave based upon Normal Pensionable Service and upon Nominal Earnings or, where less, Normal Earnings. However, when an Approved Leave is an extension pursuant to the terms of the Collective Agreement of a previous unpaid leave which has lasted for two consecutive years, benefits may accrue based upon a lesser amount of Pensionable Service and lesser earnings as provided in the Collective Agreement.
