Common use of Promotional Examinations Clause in Contracts

Promotional Examinations. When an employee is scheduled to take a Minneapolis Civil Service promotional examination for the Fire Department during his/her regular scheduled hours of duty, the City shall grant time off to take the examination. If an employee who had applied for the examination, but due to an IOD injury, is medically certified as physically unable to take a portion of the examination when scheduled; the Employer will offer him/her an opportunity to take the missed portion(s) as soon as is practical provided the employee is certified to be physically fit to take the examination within 90 days of the originally scheduled examination. Such an employee who receives a passing composite score on the secondary examination shall be added to the eligible list in rank order as of the date on which their composite score is determined. If promoted, the classification seniority of such employee shall be determined based on their ranking as if they had been added to the eligibility list as initially established. The Parties shall use their best efforts under all of the circumstances to have the examination for FMO & Fire Captain commenced in April of alternate years. (E.g. FMO = even years; Fire Captain = odd years). The Labor Management Committee shall meet in December of each year to discuss whether to administer upcoming examinations for FMO and Fire Captain.
