PIP APPEAL AND REVIEW PROCEDURE. An employee shall have the opportunity to appeal and discuss the reasons for which he or she has been recommended for demotion or termination of employment. To receive such opportunity, the employee must submit a written request to the Executive Director of Human Resources/Labor Relations for an appeal review meeting within ten calendar (10) days of his or her receipt of written notice of the recommendation. The appeal review meeting shall be scheduled within thirty (30) calendar days of the Executive Director of Human Resources/Labor Relations’ receipt of the employee’s request. In addition to the employee and the employee’s immediate supervisor, the appeal review meeting shall include the employee’s next highest-level supervisor and/or department head, the Executive Director of Human Resources/Labor Relations and the President and/or Executive Director of Congress, or their designees. After such meeting, if a decision is made by the Executive Director of Human Resources/Labor Relations to demote the employee to a lower level position or not to renew an employee’s employment contract, the employee shall be provided written notice of such decision. Thereafter, the employee may exercise his or her rights under applicable provisions of the Master Contract and/or Michigan School Code.
