MANDATORY REST PERIOD. Unless an employee agrees otherwise, employees will not be required to work more than sixteen (16) hours in a twenty-four (24) hour period without being allowed an eight (8) hour rest period. Should an employee reasonably believe that he or she can work more than sixteen (16) hours in a twenty-four (24) hour period, he or she will be permitted to do so only in the case of emergency or natural disaster and provided it does not impact the work hours/opportunity of another bargaining unit employee. The employer may require an employee to work more than sixteen (16) hours in a twenty-four (24) hour period only in the case of emergency or natural disaster. If an employee is required to work more than sixteen (16) hours in a twenty-four (24) period because of emergency or natural disaster, the employee shall be allowed an eight (8) hour rest period at the end of the work period.
