Common use of Temporary Upgrades Clause in Contracts

Temporary Upgrades. In the event that an employee is temporarily assigned to perform work for a period of at least one (1) hour and not for purposes of training, in a higher classification or classifications than that to which he/she is permanently assigned, in or outside the bargaining unit, the employee shall be paid a premium of five percent (5%) of his/her basic rate per hour for each classification level higher than the employee’s classification for all hours worked with a minimum credit of two (2) hours. This clause shall not be used for the purpose of reducing the number of employees in the job classifications to which such employee is being upgraded. At the time of assignment to a higher classification, an employee shall be verbally advised of his/her temporary upgrading.
