We will ensure that companies manufacturing in Germany enjoy fair conditions within European and global competition (“level playing field”). We will promote the aviation industry and its innovative technologies on a lasting basis to contribute to maintaining and enhancing Germany’s technological competitiveness. The long-term securing and continuous development of independent national capabilities is indispensable and also applies to the aviation industry – in particular as regards future unmanned aerospace systems. Germany must have clear objectives in space aviation. To this end we will develop within one year an independent space aviation strategy that contains clear mission and technology objectives. We will press ahead with aeronautical research programmes. We will improve the competitiveness of Germany’s maritime economy and continue the National Maritime Conferences. We will continue to develop the innovative fields of shipbuilding and marine technology. We support the development of sustainable maritime energy and raw material supply as a field that is of strategic importance for the future. The coalition will work with the EU Commission to ensure European high technology centres compete globally on a level playing field. The EU Commission policy to prevent unfair competition within the EU is correct, but it must not weaken Europe’s ability to compete with other regions in the world. Global competition rules must be fair if we are to maintain and develop advanced technology such as microelectronics and nanoelectronics in Germany. The coalition will step up its efforts in promoting research and technology. Future technologies Modern technology does not pose a threat to Germany – it offers opportunities. With it, we will be able to combat humanity’s biggest challenges: hunger, poverty, disease and natural disasters. Germany’s technological leadership will allow us to participate in the great opportunities the future holds, create jobs and provide us with prosperity while conserving our resources.
