Common use of Leave for Full-Time Union Office Clause in Contracts

Leave for Full-Time Union Office. Any employee who is elected or selected for a full-time position with the Union, the Canadian Labour Congress, the Ontario Federation of Labour, the Ontario Division or the National Body of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, shall be granted leave of absence without pay and without loss of seniority by the Corporation for a period of up to two (2) years. The Employer agrees to wage continue the employee and invoice the Union accordingly for all costs associated with the wage continuance. If the employee returns to the Bargaining Unit within two (2) years, they shall be entitled to claim their former position if it exists or in the event that the position no longer exists, they will have the right to bump in accordance with their seniority. Consideration of the bumping provisions of this Agreement will be given. It is understood by the Parties that under these circumstances the employer will not be required to serve on the affected employee(s) the notice provisions for layoff contained in this Agreement. If the employee returns to the Bargaining Unit after two (2) years but not beyond a second term of office or a maximum of four (4) years, the employee shall be entitled to take a vacant temporary or casual position until such time as a vacancy occurs where they can apply in accordance with the job posting requirements of this Agreement.
