Holidays Recognized and Observed. New Year’s Day January 1 Xxxxxx Xxxxxx Xxxx, Xx. Day Third Monday in January President’s Day Third Monday in February Memorial Day Last Monday in May Juneteenth June 19 Independence Day July 4 Labor Day First Monday in September Veteran’s Day November 11 Thanksgiving Day Fourth Thursday in November Day After Thanksgiving Friday after Thanksgiving Christmas Day December 25 *Two Floating Holidays At Employee’s Choice Any holiday declared by the City Council The floating holiday is to be determined by the employee’s request, subject to the approval of the department and dependent on the work load. The floating holidays shall be scheduled on a first- come basis and taken in the applicable calendar year. Eligible employees shall receive one (1) regular day’s pay for each of the holidays listed above on which they perform no work. Whenever any of the holidays listed above shall fall on a Sunday, the succeeding Monday shall be observed as the holiday. Whenever any of the holidays listed above shall fall on a Saturday, the preceding Friday shall be observed as the holiday. If a holiday is observed on an employee’s scheduled day off or during his/her vacation, he/she shall be paid for the unworked holiday. If an employee works on any of the holidays listed, he/she shall be paid at the rate of time and one- half (1-1/2) in addition to the holiday pay. * One floating holiday takes the place of the paid day off on an employee’s birthday as provided in the 2009-2010 contract. * An additional annual floating holiday may be taken by each bargaining unit member for the life of the 2021-2023 2024-2026 contract with the respective Department Head’s approval, so long as it does not create additional over time for the department.
