Common use of Death in Family Clause in Contracts

Death in Family. If there is a death in the family as defined in the State Sick Leave Program and an employee has exhausted his sick leave balance, he shall be granted leave without pay or may charge leave against vacation or administrative leave or compensatory time balances for up to three (3) days upon his request to the appointing authority. In exceptional situations, the time limit may be extended at the discretion of the appointing authority.

This does not preclude the use of any paid leave balances for death in the family when sick leave balances have not been exhausted.
