APPOINTMENT TO A POSITION. IN A HIGHER LEVEL CLASSIFICATION The Employee's current salary and step will normally increase to the lowest step value in the higher level classification which will result in an increase no less than the value of two steps in their current classification. For those Employees whose salary is being maintained outside of the salary range of their current classification, the Employee’s step in the higher level classification shall be determined using the Employee’s step in their current classification. If this results in a placement at a step greater than their maintained salary, then it will no longer be necessary to maintain their salary. In these circumstances, the Employee’s current salary shall be increased to the salary for the step so determined in the higher level classification. In no case may the Employee be appointed at a salary which is less favourable than that which would have been granted under Clause 24.6 to a new Employee with equal qualifications.

However, if the Employee's current salary is greater than the salary for the Employee's step in the lower level classification, the Employee's step in the higher level classification shall be determined using the provisions of this clause as if the Employee's salary were equal to the salary for the Employee's step in the lower level classification. The Employee's current salary shall, if necessary, be increased to the salary for the step so determined in the higher level classification. In no case may the Employee be appointed at a salary which is less favourable than that which would have been granted under Clause 24.6 to a new Employee with equal qualifications.
