International Telecommunications Union definition

International Telecommunications Union or "ITU" is a United Nations organization which comprises the organization previously known as the CCITT. Open Standards Interconnection (OSI) standards are established by the ITU. Telecommunications Management Network (TMN) standards are a subset of the OSI model. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is appointed by the State Department as a U.S. representative to the ITU's ISO.
