Common use of Unscheduled Earned Leave Clause in Contracts

Unscheduled Earned Leave. Requests for unscheduled Earned 11 Leave (absences initiated on a day the employee is scheduled to work) should 12 be made only for employee illness or injury, or an emergency situation beyond 13 the employee’s control. An employee making such request may be required to 14 provide proof of inability to report to work. Such requests should be made as 15 soon as the employee becomes aware of the problem or at least two (2) hours 16 before the shift starts, if possible. Employees are cautioned to use this form of 17 Earned Leave in strict conformance with these guidelines as repeated, chronic, 18 or improper use of unscheduled Earned Leave is cause for progressive discipline 19 including discharge. It is not required that Earned Leave be used for requests 20 granted two (2) hours prior to the start of a shift (“Off If Possible” - OIP).
