Limited and Light Duty Status. Limited duty is defined as a temporary work assignment, usually of short duration in which an employee can perform some of his/her normal duties or other duties as needed by the Agency in the Division. Officers may be placed in a limited duty status as a result of both on the job as well as injuries or illnesses acquired while off duty. Management will first make a reasonable attempt to find limited duty for officers within the Division, and if this is not possible officer wishing to return to full duty will be required to obtain written documentation from his/her physician for review and acceptance by the NIH OMS, or will go to the NIH OMS directly to obtain documentation indicating that the officer is capable of returning to full duty.
