Leave of Absence to Extend Parental Leave. An employee who requires parental leave beyond seventeen (17) weeks granted for maternity leave, may have an additional leave without pay of up to thirty-five (35) weeks without pay in accordance with the Employment Standards Act, 2000, providing the employee submits a written request at least two (2) weeks prior to the date her maternity leave expires. Where an employee does not take maternity leave, the employee may be granted parental leave without pay for a period of up to thirty- seven (37) weeks in accordance with the Employment Standards Act, 2000. Note: This extension must follow immediately after the employee’s maternity leave.
