Fringe Benefits During Leave. Any employee granted a leave of absence with or without pay as provided in this Article shall be given the opportunity, unless otherwise provided, to continue insurance coverages in existing school programs and, with the approval of the retirement system, to continue participation in the retirement system during the leave, provided that the premiums for such insurance programs shall be paid by the employee on a monthly basis in advance of the month due. Any such employee may serve as a temporary employee in the District while on leave.
