Common use of Extended Medical Leave Clause in Contracts

Extended Medical Leave. An employee unable to work because of illness or accident who has exhausted paid sick leave, vacation, PTO, Family Medical Leave, may apply for a personal leave of absence for medical purposes. Applications of such leave shall be made in accordance with County policies. Existence and extent of illness or disability must be verified by a written statement from a health care provider when requested by the EMPLOYER. An employee returning from an unpaid leave of absence for medical purposes shall be placed in the employee's department and classification. The returning employee shall be accorded the treatment due the employee's seniority if the department and/or classification were eliminated during the absence. Employees will return at the same salary (which includes any General Adjustment made during the absence) in the existing salary schedule, will retain promotion rights, and will earn vacation/PTO schedule seniority under this paragraph.
