Common use of Death in Immediate Family Clause in Contracts

Death in Immediate Family. Employees shall be allowed three (3) days off without loss of pay in case of death in their immediate family. Immediate family shall be understood to mean: spouse (including established civil union), children, brother, sister, father, mother, step-parents, step-children, mother-in-law, father-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, xxxxxx parents, and xxxxxx children. Employees shall be allowed one (1) day off without loss of pay in case of the death of grandmother, grandfather, grandchild, sister-in-law and brother-in-law. Time off with pay under this section shall be limited solely to instances involving the death of family members specifically mentioned herein, and all prior interpretive decisions permitting pay under special circumstances shall be nullified.
