Authorised and Unauthorised Absence. If a student is absent from the Academy, it is vital that a parent contact the Academy by 9am to provide a reason for the absence. This should be by telephone to the reception in the first instance supported by a written note on the student’s return. Absence can only be authorised where there is good cause. Absences for illness/medical reasons must always be supported by medical evidence. If no adequate reason for absence is provided, attendance will be recorded as unauthorised.

Parents should not take family holidays during the term time period. The Local Authority has the power to fine parents if their child is absent from school without authorisation.

Following 6 sessions of unauthorised absence, a Penalty Warning Letter will be issued. There will be a review for three weeks, and should the student’s attendance continue to decline, a Penalty Notice will be issued following once the pupil has 10 sessions of unauthorised absence.
