Public cash assistance definition

Public cash assistance means in- come or needs-based monetary assist- ance to include, but not limited to, supplemental security income received by the alien through federal, state, or local programs designed to meet sub- sistence levels. It does not include as- sistance in kind, such as food stamps, public housing, or other non-cash bene- fits, nor does it include work-related compensation or certain types of med- ical assistance (Medicare, Medicaid, emergency treatment, services to preg- nant women or children under 18 years of age, or treatment in the interest of public health).
