Private investment in robotics varies globally as well, with many of the powerhouse companies in the United States and Japan. Corporations based in the United States, like iRobot and Xxxxxx-Xxxxxx, have emphasized military and home-cleaning applications.85 In Japan, by contrast, automotive manufacturers Toyota and Honda have led the way in developing robots that can walk, talk, and otherwise interact very much like humans.
