Common use of Meal Breaks and Rest Pauses Clause in Contracts

Meal Breaks and Rest Pauses. Day workers shall be allowed an unpaid break of thirty (30) minutes for a meal during their ordinary working hours. Such a break shall be commenced not earlier than 4 hours and not later than six hours after the commencement of their ordinary work. To allow for continuity of work, such meal breaks may be staggered. If an employee does not have a break at the agreed time they will be paid the appropriate overtime rate until such time as the meal break is taken.
