Common use of Leave, President, O.N.A Clause in Contracts

Leave, President, O.N.A. Upon application in writing by the Union on behalf of the nurse to the Employer, a leave of absence shall be granted to such nurse elected to the office of President of the Ontario Nurses’ Association. Notwithstanding Article 12.04, there shall be no loss of service or seniority for a full-time nurse during such leave of absence. There shall be no loss of service or seniority for a part-time nurse during such leave of absence. During such leave of absence, the nurse’s salary and applicable benefits shall be maintained by the Employer and the Union agrees to reimburse the Employer in the amount of the full cost of such salary and applicable benefits. It is understood, however, that during such leave the nurse shall be deemed to be an employee of the Ontario Nurses’ Association. The nurse agrees to notify the Employer of the nurse’s intention to return to work at least two weeks prior to the date of such return.

Notwithstanding the above, the Employer and the Union may make alternate arrangements in respect to salary and benefit continuation.
