- BEREAVEMENT LEAVE ELIGIBILITY. Employees are eligible for a paid leave of absence of up to three days for a death in the immediate family for purposes of attending the funeral or attending to funeral related matters in the same week. Extensions of the three day bereavement period may be granted by the Director due to the close nature of the family relationship (e.g. spouse, parent, or child) or in the event long distance travel is involved. However, in no event shall bereavement leave exceed five working days. The Director retains the discretion to grant additional leave charged to the employee’s paid leave bank depending on the circumstances. In the event of the death of a SECC Employee, the Director depending on scheduling may grant bereavement leave to the departmental employees to attend funeral and visitation services.

An employee could request in writing to the Sheriff to reserve allotted bereavement leave for a funeral that is delayed for up to thirty (30) days after the death. For delayed utilization of bereavement leave the employee must provide five (5) days notice of the date of the funereal proceeding.

  • Bereavement Leave With Pay For the purpose of this clause, immediate family is defined as father, mother (or alternatively stepfather, stepmother, or xxxxxx parent), grandparent, brother, sister, spouse, child, grandchild, stepchild or xxxx of the employee, father-in-law, mother-in-law, step-relative and relative permanently residing in the employee's household or with whom the employee permanently resides.
