As its contribution towards creating the Industry’s future workforce, the Employer commits to the following arrangements. To ensure apprentices receive appropriate on the job training by experienced tradespeople and apprentice numbers are maximised, the Employer shall maintain a ratio of at least 1 apprentice to 5 tradespeople for the first 20 tradespeople employed by the Employer. For every 10 additional tradespeople employed thereafter, the ratio will be at least 1 apprentice to 10 tradespeople. For example, if the Employer engages 30 tradespeople, 5 will be apprentices. The Employer and the Union shall discuss and implement agreed strategies to maximise apprentice intake for the Employer. Provided that the application of this clause is not used to displace existing Employees, there should be no more apprentices engaged than tradespeople on any site, project or job (i.e. 1:1 ratio).

Apprentices. Apprentices are entitled shall be indentured between the Company and the Union. Except for the classificationsof Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) and Electrician, the Company shall decide, within the apprenticeship time limits specified above, when an apprentice is fully capable in his trade and when he should be classified as a journeyman. For the classifications of Industrial Mechanic (Xxxxxxxxxx) and employeecanbeclassifiedas a whodoesnot certificationto practicehis trade in industry. The ratio of apprentices in any department shall be mutually between Union and Management. In the case of a reduction of forces,no apprentice shall have the right to displace a journeyman. Apprenticesmay be taken from the shopor from new employees but preference shall be given to employees already in the employ of the Company, provided such employees can fulfill the necessary requirements. Should an employee taken from the shop be in receipt of a higher rate of pay than the apprentice rate offered him by Management,whateverarrangement be agreed upon between the Management and the Union Committee shall govern. If a higher rate thanthe prevailingapprentice rate is agreed to, the employee shall receive such rate until such time the apprentice scale of rates would equal such higher rate, and then he shall receive increases as set forth in the apprentice scale of rates. Apprentices. There shall be a Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee consisting of three (3) members designated by The Greater New York and New Jersey Tile Contractors Association, Inc. and (1) member of the Building Contractors Association of Atlantic County and three (3) members designated by the Union to administer the Apprenticeship Training Program shall meet at least semi-annually. An apprentice shall be defined as a "Local 7 Apprentice" in the Apprenticeship Training Program. The Apprenticeship Training Program shall be a four (4) year program for all Local 7 Tile Setters. The program for the Tile Finisher apprentices shall be a three (3) year program. The Apprenticeship Training Program shall provide for mandatory cross-training and upgrading for all Local 7 apprentices. If, at the Union's discretion, the pre-apprentice who is going through the twelve (12) week training program is not qualified to become an apprentice at the time, that pre- apprentice shall be subject to mandatory testing prior to a final decision.
