Sabbatical Leave. The objective Sabbatical leave is a leave of absence for travel or study for employees for the purpose of professional enrichment which shall result in benefit to the Saint ▇▇▇▇ Public Schools.
9.1 In order to be eligible for sabbatical leave, an employee shall have actively served in the Saint ▇▇▇▇ Public Schools for seven (7) full school years or more. Sabbatical Leave. 13.18.1 A sabbatical leave of absence for a period not to exceed one school year may be granted a unit member for the purpose of permitting professional study, travel, or research, subject to the following conditions:
13.18.1.1 The objective unit member shall have rendered at least seven (7) consecutive school years of service to the District immediately preceding the school year for which sabbatical leave is requested.
13.18.1.2 A sabbatical leave of absence is an opportunity to prepare for improved service that will benefit the schools and students of Goleta Union School District. The unit member requesting sabbatical leave shall therefore develop, present, and arrange to fulfill a program of activity that will be of benefit to the schools and students of the District, and upon return from sabbatical leave shall present a report to the Superintendent or designee verifying compliance with the accepted program of activity.
13.18.1.3 The number of employees on sabbatical leave during any one school year shall not exceed twopercent(2%) of thetotalnumber of certificatedemployeesin the District.
13.18.1.4 A unit member on sabbatical leave is considered to be a regular employee of the District insofar as placement on the salary schedule, fringe benefits, and other rights are concerned. Time on sabbatical leave shall be counted toward retirement in the same manner that a year of active service shall count. An employee shall receive full- time service credit toward retirement for a period of sabbatical leave providing the employee pays to the retirement system additional contributions based on the compensation which is the difference between compensation earned and the compensation earnable during the period of sabbatical leave. The District shall pay the amount it normally would be required to pay as employer during the sabbatical leave.
13.18.1.5 Unit members on sabbatical leave shall receive seventy-five percent (75%) of their normal contract salary.

The equivalent of a full-time professional service after first employment teaching load multiplied by the District or after returning six (6) years is required in order to the District from be eligible for a sabbatical leave. Approved leaves of absence are measured in teaching units (one (1) teaching unit equals three (3) credit course) and are subtracted from the total. Parental leaves and release time from teaching count toward eligibility for sabbatical leave.

4. If a faculty member or librarian applies for but is not granted a sabbatical leave for reasons other than the merits of their proposal, they shall be given priority over another faculty member or librarian in the following year in instances where discretion is being exercised in granting a sabbatical leave between faculty members and librarians who both have meritorious sabbatical leave proposals. The initial year of eligibility will start the accrual of time toward the next sabbatical leave.
5. Twenty-two (22) months in advance of the five percent factor faculty member’s or librarian’s eligibility, the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ shall notify the faculty member or librarian of such eligibility in writing. Faculty members will apply to their Department Head, and librarians to the total number ▇▇▇▇ of full-Libraries, a reasonable time in advance—usually eighteen (18) months before the effective date of the sabbatical leave requested—and describe their proposal for the use of the sabbatical. The Department Head shall submit their recommendation along with the faculty members results member’s proposal to the ▇▇▇▇. Faculty in a fraction Experimental and Foundation Studies will apply directly to the ▇▇▇▇ of .5 Experimental and Foundation Studies. Faculty who are Department Heads will apply directly to their Deans. The deans or more, the next higher number ▇▇▇▇ of Libraries shall submit their recommendations along with the faculty member or librarian proposals to the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ according to the chronology and schedule of dead- lines published by the Office of Academic Affairs. The Committee on Faculty Appointments shall review the proposal and shall endorse or reject the ▇▇▇▇’▇ or Director’s recommendation. These recommendations shall be determined forwarded to the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇; the ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ will make a recommendation to the President for a decision. Notification of this decision will be given to the maximum number faculty member or librarian in writing no later than May 15 of the year in which the application was submitted.
6. All proposals for sabbatical leaves that leave must meet the standards set forth in paragraph 1 above. Approval may be granted. If affected by the number of applicants for sabbatical leave exceeds within the number program, department, division, or the feasibility of leaves which may be grantedcovering the classes of the applicant, the Sabbatical Leave Committee may identify alternates in ranked order.
15.11.3 Pay for full-time faculty on sabbatical leave will be 70 percent for a school year financial considerations or 100 percent for one semesterother reason. The pay for final decision concerning the granting or denial of sabbatical leave shall be based on made by the regular salary schedule President and shall not be arbitrary or capricious.
7. Faculty members or librarians shall not accept teaching appointments at any other institution or otherwise be employed for remuneration, other than outside professional employment to no greater extent than the individual would have received faculty member or librarian had he/she remained engaged while teaching or working in the library full-time, during the term of a sabbatical leave without written permission from the President; however, it is understood that in unusual circumstances, faculty members or librarians may include teaching at another institution or other employment for remuneration in excess of any outside professional employment in which the faculty member or librarian had been engaged while teaching or working in the library full-time teaching positionas a part of their sabbatical proposal.
8. For determining Faculty members and librarians should conform during sabbatical pay, pay received leave with the proposals for overload teaching and other extra beyond the schedule will not use of the sabbatical as approved by the President. Failure to comply with terms of the grant of the sabbatical leave may result in forfeiture of all compensation during the period of the sabbatical. Sabbatical proposals may be included. All staff benefits such as retirement, medical and dental benefits, and amended at any future benefits made available to full-time faculty will be continued during the sabbatical leave periodby mutual agreement between faculty member or librarian and the President.
9. Each person granted Upon completion of a sabbatical leave must agree to return to the District and render a period of service in employ of the Governing Board of the District, which is equal to twice the period of time taken for sabbatical leave, or alternatively, reimburse the College for the full salary and institutional costs of fringe benefits received while on leave. A promissory note will be required to be executed at the commencement of the sabbatical leave. (See Appendix K) If a faculty member returns, but fails or librarian shall report on their activities to perform his their ▇▇▇▇ or her full return-to-service obligation, then his the ▇▇▇▇ of Libraries and share their findings or her repayment obligation work through lectures or exhibitions with the larger community of the College. 10. Any repayment obligation shall Post-critical review faculty who are on sabbatical and whose evaluation schedule would ordinarily require that they be due evaluated during their sabbatical year may delay their scheduled evaluation until the Fall following their sabbatical. This adjustment in full, immediately or through a mutually agreed upon repayment planschedule will not affect the timing of subsequent evaluations.

Final approval shall be at the discretion of the School Board. Tier 1 and Tier 2 licensed teachers shall not be eligible for sabbatical.
Subd. 3. Teachers taking a sabbatical leave will be paid a minimum of $12,000 based on the difference between their annual salary and the annual salary of the teacher's replacement. (e.g., $44,000 salary, replacement's salary $31,000 = $13,000 difference paid.) Payment for sabbatical leaves of less than one year will be made on a prorated basis. District insurance benefit contributions will continue during the employee's one-year leave.
Subd. 4. Upon return from a sabbatical leave, faculty a teacher shall be restored to his or her former position or to a position of like nature or status and shall be continued at the same position on the salary schedule as if he or she had taught in the district during such period. He or she shall maintain tenure and accumulated combined leave; however, combined leave will not continue accruing. He or she shall remain a part of the group health plan.
Subd. 5. Upon application, up to two percent of the School District's teaching staff may be eligible to apply for a placed on sabbatical leave.

Sabbatical Leave. Certificated Staff
1. The objective Board, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, shall grant a sabbatical leave during the school year and beyond for the purpose of study or other purposes as may be approved by the Board.
2. Teachers may apply for such leave in writing to the Superintendent as soon as possible, but not later than January 15th of the school year preceding the school year for which sabbatical is requested. The teacher shall be advised of the Board's action on the application immediately following the Board meeting in March. In order to apply, a teacher must have been employed by the Board at least seven (7) consecutive years and be a non- recipient of a sabbatical leave during the seven (7) preceding years. The leave shall be granted for no more than one (1) academic year.
3. A teacher on sabbatical leave may receive compensation during the period of his/her leave 50% of his regularly scheduled salary for the duration of the sabbatical leave. A teacher on leave is may have the salary check mailed to his/her designated address at the time that other professional improvement employees within the district receive their paychecks and shall also receive credit toward retirement to the same extent as he/she would have received were he occupied in his/her regular assignment. The teacher on such leave shall determine with the Secretary of the employee, which will benefit the College, the instructional program and, specifically, the students Board in advance of the Collegebeginning of the leave the necessary deductions from his/her salary so as not to jeopardize pension, insurance and other benefits.

An employee on sabbatical leave will shall report all compensation received from sources other than the Board, provided the compensation shall not include such items as allowed for travel, cost-of-living adjustments for foreign service, research, or other expense in connection with the project. Should such other compensation, when added to the compensation paid by the Board, exceed the salary which the recipient would have received if on active duty, the compensation allowed by the Board shall be 70 percent for reduced to bring the total to the amount of the salary he would have received if on active duty.
6. A teacher at Mainland Regional High School who receives a school year or 100 percent for one semester. The pay for sabbatical leave shall be based on the regular salary schedule the individual would have received had he/she remained in a full-time teaching position. For determining sabbatical pay, pay received for overload teaching and other extra beyond the schedule will not be included. All staff benefits such as retirement, medical and dental benefits, and any future benefits made available to full-time faculty will be continued during the sabbatical leave period. Each person granted sabbatical leave must agree to return to service in the District and render district for a period of two (2) years, or to refund all compensation paid during the sabbatical. In order to ensure reimbursement to the district, a teacher, upon commencement of a sabbatical, shall execute a promissory note for the appropriate amount of dollars. Upon completion of one
(1) year service after return, the note shall be reduced by 50%, and upon completion of two (2) years service, it shall be canceled. The note shall also be canceled in employ the event of the Governing employee's death, or extended in the event of pregnancy, lengthy illness, or extended illness in the immediate family for which leave had been granted. The Board has the right to purchase a term life insurance policy to cover the amount of the District, which is equal promissory note referred to twice the period of time taken for above.
7. Upon return from a sabbatical leave, or alternativelythe teacher shall be restored to his/her former position. 8. Upon return from a sabbatical leave. (See Appendix K) If a faculty member returns, but fails to perform his or her full return-to-service obligation, then his or her repayment obligation the teacher shall be prorated. Sabbatical Leave. The objective Sabbatical leave may be granted to certificated teaching and administrative personnel for a maximum of one year when conforming to Arizona Revised Statutes, 15-510(D)(E). Application for sabbatical leave must be received by March 15. It will be considered within the framework of all applicable law, on the basis of improvement of professional preparation and/or the educational program of the District, current assignment of the individual, value of the leave to the District, and funds that are available. (GCCF) Sabbatical leave may be granted only to a teacher who has been employed by the District for a period of seven consecutive years immediately prior to the time the sabbatical leave is professional improvement of the employeeto commence, which will benefit the College, the instructional program and, specifically, the students of the College. A promissory note will be required to be executed at the commencement ending dates of the sabbatical leave. ▪ The beginning and ending dates of the program or travel for which the sabbatical is sought. ▪ Certification that A.R.S. 15-510 has been read and is thoroughly understood. In determining recommendations on requests for sabbatical leaves, the Superintendent will consider the following items: ▪ Improved instructional efficiency. ▪ Length of active service with the District. ▪ The contribution, professional study, and successful service of the applicant during the preceding seven years of service. ▪ The extent to which the sabbatical leave plans submitted are definite and educationally constructive. ▪ Reasonable and equitable distribution of applicants among the different levels and departments in the District. ▪ The principal's recommendation. The Superintendent may wish to seek the advice of an advisory committee to make recommendations on applicants for sabbatical leave. The committee shall consist of the following: ▪ Three (See Appendix K3) teachers appointed by the representative teacher organization. ▪ The director of human resources. ▪ The Superintendent or designee. ▪ The principal or supervisor of the applicant. If a faculty member returnsteacher's application is not recommended to the Governing Board for approval, but the teacher may appeal, through the Superintendent, to the Governing Board. A teacher on sabbatical leave shall not engage in full-time employment and/or in study for another trade or profession during the leave. Exception to stipulation on employment may be allowed if it is a necessary part of the education plan and approval is given when the leave is granted. The sabbatical leave recipient must make a full written report to the Superintendent midway in the sabbatical leave, indicating grades and progress. This report is to be forwarded to the human resources office. The Governing Board has the authority to cancel a sabbatical leave if they feel that proper progress is not being made by the recipient. Upon returning from sabbatical leave, the teacher shall furnish a written report showing that the plan of study has been followed and that it has been satisfactorily completed. The returning teacher shall make a report to the Governing Board and other interested groups on the sabbatical experiences. Teachers returning from sabbatical leave are subject to reassignment in the District according to the guidelines listed elsewhere in this regulation. Benefits for employees on sabbatical leave, as well as their responsibilities following leave, shall be in accordance with A.R.S. 15-510. A salary may be paid to the person to whom sabbatical leave is granted. The salary, when authorized, will be computed as follows: the teacher's normal salary minus a beginning teacher's salary (BA column, first step, of the teacher's salary program), not to exceed one-half the teacher's normal salary. Note: A year's leave of absence does not count as a year of experience for determining increments on the salary schedule or for accrual of benefits. Sabbatical Leave. Sabbatical leaves are currently available to tenured Law Faculty. The objective following policy regarding these leaves will be effective with the date of this CBA. A sabbatical leave is a leave of absence with partial or full pay for purpose of professional improvement for tenured law faculty. It is intended for the mutual benefit of the University, the law school, and the person granted the leave. It should facilitate independent research and creative activity by providing a period for concentrated scholarly work. Upon completion of the leave, the faculty member will include in his/her annual report a summary of his/her professional activities while on leave.
18.10.1 A sabbatical leave is a privilege and not a right. Each application shall be decided upon its individual merit. The ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ and Vice President for Academic Affairs grants all leaves on behalf of the Board of Trustees and the President after consultation with the ▇▇▇▇.
18.10.2 Sabbatical leaves are ordinarily reserved for those members of the faculty who have completed advanced academic preparation. Tenured faculty members shall become eligible upon the granting of tenure and completion of six years of full-time service at the University. Years of service shall count from the date of full-time tenure track appointment or from the ending date of the previous sabbatical leave. All leaves of absence (with or without pay) shall be excluded in determining years of service for this purpose.
18.10.3 The duration of a sabbatical leave is as follows: For faculty on academic year appointments: one semester at full salary or two semesters at half salary. In exceptional cases, shorter leaves at more frequent intervals may be granted or even requested by the University to allow for greater flexibility than is attainable under the normal full- semester, six-year cycle. Salary and the employer share of benefits costs associated with such leaves will be covered by the University.
18.10.4 For leaves at half pay the University will maintain its full contribution to benefits if the faculty member makes the applicable contributions. See USY V.F.10 for payroll information and USY V.A for specific information regarding benefit contributions.
18.10.5 Recipients of sabbatical leaves are permitted to receive income for professional activities without prejudice to their receipt of income from the University, provided the activity is approved in advance by the ▇▇▇▇. Sabbatical Leave. The objective HAC staff shall become eligible for a sabbatical leave on the date he or she completes the fifth consecutive year of full-time employment with HAC. Employees who have been employed on less than a full-time basis for any part of the five-year eligibility period or who have been on an approved leave of absence shall become eligible for sabbatical leave is professional improvement on the date he or she completes the equivalent of the employee, which will benefit the College, the instructional program and, specifically, the students of the College. While the importance of including sabbatical leave is recognized, higher priority at Ohlone College shall be the instructional program and the offering of courses, which meet the needs of our students and the community. 15.11.1 After six (6) five consecutive years of full-time professional service after first employment. Each subsequent five-year period of employment with HAC shall constitute a new sabbatical eligibility period, regardless of whether or not accrued sabbatical leave has been taken. Time spent on sabbatical leave shall not be included in computing the next five-year eligibility period. Sabbaticals are not vacations and an employee will not be paid for unused sabbaticals when he or she leaves HAC. Employees do not acquire a right to a partial sabbatical leave if they have worked less than five consecutive years. Sabbatical leave shall be applied for at least 5 months prior to the desired date of commencement of leave. The Director shall approve or deny leave applications within one month of receiving the application, subject to the following limitations:
(1) no more than two (2) employees may be on sabbatical leave at any one time, and
(2) where the efficient management of HAC requires such adjustment, the Director may request that the employee alter either or both the end and start dates for the sabbatical period. Sabbatical leave shall be for a period of 20 consecutive working days or holidays. Sabbatical leave shall consist often (10) days fully paid, plus ten (10) days of vacation time. At the Director's discretion, additional leave may be approved for a maximum period of2 months, on the following terms: 1-month sabbatical leave (sabbatical plus vacation) at the current salary plus up to 1-month additional leave in any combination of leave without pay plus accrued paid vacation leave, as desired by the District or after returning to applicant. During the District from a sabbatical leave, faculty will be eligible to apply for a sabbatical leave.

Starting the 7th month after return from sabbatical, HAC will begin to "pay back" the 10 days of vacation time used for sabbatical leave. For the twelve pay periods beginning with the 15th of the seventh (See Appendix K7th) If month, the employee will receive, in addition to regular accrued vacation, 5.83 hours of vacation time per pay period. By the end of the 12th month after returning from sabbatical, the employee's 10 days of vacation will be fully refunded. All employees covered by this agreement are eligible for a faculty member returnssabbatical. As HAC's sabbatical policy has been in effect for more than five years, but fails all employees covered by this agreement are automatically covered by the sabbatical policy as of their hire date. The layoff and recall provisions of this Agreement shall apply to perform his or her full return-to-service obligation, then his or her repayment obligation shall be prorated.
