Common use of Department Head Clause in Contracts

Department Head. If an issue is not satisfactorily resolved in Step 1 above, the Union may submit the grievance in writing, to such management official as the Department Head or designee. This request must be filed no more than ten (10) work days after the date of the Step 1 response from the supervisor. This formal written grievance must state which provision of the MOU or the incorporated County regulation has been misinterpreted or misapplied, how it was misinterpreted or misapplied, how misapplication or misinterpretation has affected the grievant to the grievant(s)’ detriment, and the redress the Union seeks. A copy of each written communication on a grievance must be filed with the Employee Relations Officer or designee and the Union. The Department Head or designee shall have ten (10) work days in which to respond to the grievance in writing, stating the reason(s) for the disposition of the grievance.
