Common use of Catastrophic Leave Clause in Contracts

Catastrophic Leave. 16.N.1. Definition: Catastrophic illness or injury means an illness or injury that is expected to incapacitate the unit member or anyone of the following individuals: unit member’s parents, spouse/domestic partner, children or other member of the immediate household. Catastrophic illness requires the employee to take time off from work for an extended period of time to care for that family member, and taking extended time off work creates a financial hardship for the employee because he/she has exhausted all of his/her sick leave or other paid time off.

Catastrophic illness requires employee’s family (spouse, child), requiring the employee to take time off from work for an extended period of time to care for that family member, and taking extended time off work which creates a financial hardship for the employee because he/she has exhausted all of his/her sick leave or and other paid time offoff has been exhausted. When it is a family member who must be cared for, only vacation leave may be donated.

The following provisions shall apply:
