Arrays, Networks and Underwater Communications Sample Clauses

Arrays, Networks and Underwater Communications. This Functional Area includes the development of hull mounted arrays, towed arrays, underwater communication systems, navigation and range measurement systems, and distributed networks to increase detection ranges, channel density and numbers; extend frequency ranges; improve reliability, accuracy and manufacturability, reduce size, weight, cooling and required power, support open architectures, reduce active source size, and support cyber security compliance.

Arrays, Networks and Underwater Communications. The Offeror shall describe a concept for a set of low power - low profile electro-mechanical components intended to be integrated with hydrophone and projector devices to make a complete acoustic system. The receive subsystem shall contain standard components such as a preamplifier, equalization filter, analog to digital converter (ADC), multiplexer and digital copper interface. All receive electronics shall operate with no higher than a regulated 2.5 volts supply and draw a maximum of 1 Watt per channel. The preamplifier shall deliver total electronic noise less than 38 dB//□PA2/Hz at 2.5 kHz when connected to a hydrophone/cable with Capacitance = 350 pF, loss factor = 0.02 and sensitivity = -185 dB/V/□□PA. Assume the amplifier input resistance = 100 Mohms and operates at a temperature = 20oC. The equalization filter shall flatten out noise with a 10 dB/decade slope with a maximum ripple of 2 dB between the frequency band 500 – 5000 Hz. The ADC shall provide at least 20 bits of real dynamic range with a sample rate of 12 kHz per channel and rail voltages +/- 1 volt. The maximum harmonic distortion of an unclipped 2500 Hz sinusoid at 0.25 Volts peak-peak input to the subsystem shall be less than 40 dB. The receive subsystem shall acquire four channels on a single electronics module of dimensions 4 in x 4 in x 0.5 in. and produce a multiplexed digital data stream on an output cable suitable for interfacing to a computer module. The transmit subsystem shall include a waveform generator to produce analog signals with minimum 12-bit resolution within +/- 1 Volt rails, and total harmonic distortion less than 40 dB within the band between 1500-5000 Hz. A low profile power amplifier (PA) shall increase the 1 Vpp waveform to 141 Volts (pp) at 0.1 Amps with an efficiency of at least 50%. An appropriate portable DC power supply based upon primary alkaline batteries shall also be included. The entire electronics package (receive and transmit) shall fit within a cylindrical volume constrained by six inches height by six inches diameter. Describe the steps required for Conceptual Design (SOW 4.1), Prototype Design, Fabrication, Integration and Test (SOW 4.2), Ship Alteration and Prototype Installation (SOW 4.3), Test and Evaluation (SOW 4.4), and Transition to Production (SOW 4.5).
