Serious work accident definition

Serious work accident means an on-duty accident or incident resulting in death or serious personal injury requiring immediate medical treatment arising out of: operation of a motor vehicle; discharge of a firearm; a physical altercation; provision of direct health care services; or handling dangerous or hazardous materials.

  • Serious illness means an accident, injury, illness, disease, or physical or mental condition that: poses imminent danger of death; requires inpatient care in a hospital, hospice, or residential medical facility; or requires continuing in-home care under the direction of a physician or health care provider.
