Temporary Leave. Union Public Schools shall provide Temporary Leave with pay for time necessary to appear in legal proceedings affecting the school system, school business, or to participate in school services. The Superintendent or designee shall request such leave at least three (3) days prior to the date of leave.

(a) Each teacher who is under a full-time contract for a full professional year shall be granted twelve (12) temporary leave days on the first day that the teacher reports for work in that professional year. Each teacher at extended day/ extended year schools on a 210-day, full time contract for a full professional year shall be granted thirteen and a half (13.5) temporary leave days. Tempo- rary leave days shall be prorated for any teacher who is contracted for less than full time but at least half time or who begins his/her employment after the be- ginning of the professional year. However, teachers in less than half-time posi- tions who were hired before August 1, 1999, shall receive prorated temporary leave days. Temporary leave days granted shall be added immediately to the teacher’s accumulation. A teacher under an addendum contract shall be granted one (1) temporary leave day for each fifteen (15) days of paid addendum com- puted to the nearest half day. Such additional days shall be added to the teach- er’s accumulation upon completion of the addendum contract.
(b) Unused temporary leave days shall be cumulative without limit.
(c) Accumulated temporary leave days may be used for:
(1) Personal illness, injury, or incapacitation up to the maximum number of days the teacher has accumulated, except that accumulated leave days may not be used during addendum contracts of twenty (20) or fewer days. However, no teacher may use temporary leave days for any single such disability beyond 180 calendar days from the first day of disability. On or before the end of thirty (30) calendar days from the beginning date of the disability and on or before the end of every thirty (30) calendar days there- after, the teacher and his/her physician shall furnish a statement verifying the disability. For the recurrence of a disability to be considered a new disability, the teacher must have returned to work for a continuous period equal in length to the period of absence or for thirty (30) consecutive con- tract days if the period of absence exceeded thirty (30) contract days. However, if such time period is interrupted by the end of the school year, a teacher who fails to complete such time period upon the start of the next school year may file an appeal with the Chief Human Resources Officer who may waive the remaining days. Temporary Leave. Paragraph 1: General: Subject to the superintendent's approval, a teacher may be granted temporary leave for the following purposes. If not approved, any such leave may be considered an absence subject to deduction.
Temporary Leave. It is the goal of the Association and the District to maximize student certified employee contact time. Employees are encouraged to keep this goal in mind when utilizing temporary leave.

Payment for non-used sick leave is based on a minimum accumulation of twenty (20) days to become eligible for payment. Payment to the individual or estate to be made upon retirement, reduction in force, resignation (prior to June 1 of contract year), death, or long-term disability. The payment rate is based on 100% of accumulated days, at the rate of $20.00 per day.
Temporary Leave. 11.1.1 Temporary leave may be taken for personal illness and/or death in the immediate family (father, mother, daughter, son, brother, sister, spouse or relatives living in the household), or for legal, business, household, or family matters or other personal reasons which require absence during working hours. Accumulated temporary leave may be used for pregnancy, childbirth, or recovery there from. Temporary leave may not be used for other employment.
11.1.1.1 If a first year employee does not complete the year for which personal leave is granted, that employee will be docked salary prorated to the percentage of the year worked. (Example: If an employee takes two (2) personal days and leaves the district after three fourths (3/4) of their work year is completed, the employee will be docked one fourth (1/4) of two (2) days or one (1) half (1/2) day).
11.1.1.2 Leave for personal reasons for school personnel will not be granted:
11.1.1.2.1 One day before or after winter break or spring break.
11.1.1.2.2 During the opening two (2) weeks of school.
11.1.1.2.3 During the final two (2) weeks prior to school closing.
11.1.1.2.4 No more than ten (10) consecutive days can be used per year.
11.1.2 Employees will accrue temporary leave at a rate of 1.33 x total hours worked per week (one hour for every 17.3333 hours) divided by five (5). An employee can accrue no more than ten point six four (10.64) hours per pay period.
11.1.3 Earned temporary leave will accrue without limit. After accumulation of hours equal to seventy-five (75) days, employees shall have the option of receiving, in June, $7.08 per hour for accrued leave hours over the seventy-five (75) days. All accumulated temporary leave hours will be reimbursed upon termination of employment at the rate of $5.95 an hour for hours up to seventy-five (75) days and $7.08 an hour for hours over seventy-five (75) days.
11.1.4 Employees who will be absent on temporary leave shall notify their immediate supervisor or principal or designee a minimum of two (2) hours prior to the time set for commencing work. The supervisor or principal will provide written notification to employees as to the identity of his/her designee. Failure to notify the immediate supervisor/principal or designee of an absence within this time frame may result in disciplinary action.
