Promotions Requiring Higher Qualifications. If there is no regular employee appointed in accordance with Article 15.05, the University may appoint a regular employee candidate who does not possess the required qualifications but who is preparing for qualifications prior to filling the vacancy, if, in the sole judgement of the Employer, it is in the best interest of the University to make such an appointment. The University shall establish a period within which the qualifications must be obtained and shall establish the length of the trial period which will not exceed one (1) year, unless extenuating circumstances exist. If the qualifications are not obtained or if the trial period is unsuccessful, the employee shall revert to his/her former position.
