Payment of Overtime. Teachers who are assigned to a special project that is in addition to their normal duties or workloads and upon having received advanced written approval shall be compensated at the rate of straight time for the hours worked on the special project. Please refer to the Glossary for examples of situations appropriate for the payment of overtime. Overtime may be paid in cash or compensatory time, provided the Appointing Authority has established a compensatory bank for the payment of overtime. The rules governing the use and liquidation of such bank, if established, shall be developed by the Appointing Authority. The Appointing Authority may establish the maximum amount of hours that may be in the compensatory bank at any given time provided that the amount is not less than forty (40) hours. The teacher shall be allowed to choose cash or compensatory time each payroll period. Should a teacher fail to indicate cash or compensatory time, the decision shall be at the option of the Appointing Authority. Accrued compensatory time need not be used in the payroll period during which it is earned.
