Common use of New Teacher Mentoring Clause in Contracts

New Teacher Mentoring. The District shall pay a designated mentor teacher up to $915 in the form of a supplemental contract for the purpose of planning, assisting, observing, and mentoring a designated teacher in their first year in the District. The Superintendent will designate the mentor and the new teacher to be mentored. The Principal will be responsible for the evaluation and supervision of the new teacher. The mentor and the new teacher will submit a report to the Superintendent by the end of each of the first three quarters of the school year identifying completion dates and times of the following: - 9 hours for the purpose of planning/guidance - 9 hours of observation in the new teacher’s class during the first semester - 4 hours of observation in the new teacher’s class during the second semester - 7.5 hours of post-observation discussion - 4 hours of lesson planning discussion. Hours identified for planning and discussion shall be worked outside of the regular contractual day. Scheduling of hours for observation shall be approved by the principal.
