Compatibility of the proposal of CAMP Levante de Almeria with. CAMP objectives and triggering factors in the selected area ▪ The objectives and activities proposed for the CAMP Levante de Almeria are fully compatible with the objectives set for the CAMP projects, as it would strengthen the coordination mechanisms between Administrations and local socioeconomic agents; it would increase the public awareness and participation in the policies and conservation activities and sustainable use of the resources; and it would improve the training of the managing teams of the area, of the various socioeconomic agents and of the local population; it would contribute to the application of a sustainable model of development in the area; it would assess the current situation, the tendencies and possible future scenarios of the territorial structure and the interactions between development and environment; it would reinforce the sustainability and compatibility with the conservation of the natural and cultural resources of the main economic sectors of the area; it would contribute to the conservation and appropriate management of the natural and cultural resources. ▪ The relevance of the chosen area is clear, the following aspects deserving to be underlined: Firstly, the insufficient coordination of activities between the Public Administrations themselves and the socioeconomic agents; and secondly, a series of aspects such as important urban, vacational and residential tourism pressure with all its derived problems; Agricultural intensification and derived pollution-related problems; Strong conflict between the uses of the territory and the natural resources; Presence of highly valuable and fragile natural areas. ▪ There is, additionally, an interest going beyond the local and national scope regarding the results expected from the CAMP project. With regard to this aspect it must be pointed out that this project is a pioneering one in Spain, and, therefore, it can become a reference in the implementation of the principles of the “Recommendation on the implementation of the integrated management of coastal areas in Europe (2002/413/EC)”. ▪ The high degree of institutional involvement in the Project must be highlighted. There is an explicit political will for the implementation of the integrated management in the coastal areas in general, and specifically of the CAMP Levante de Almeria project, expressed at a local, regional and national level.
