The University's basic procedural approach to handling allegations of research misconduct is to investigate as soon as misconduct is suspected, inform and cooperate with the Office of Research Integrity (ORI), and to follow the proceeding policies.
For purposes of responding to whistleblower retaliation complaints, the Vice President for Research will be the University official responsible for establishing and implementing policies consistent with 42CFR50.103(d)(13) and the Office of Research Integrity (ORI) Guidelines for Institutions and Whistleblowers: Responding to Possible Retaliation Against Whistleblowers in Extramural Research (November 20, 1995) and will serve as the university's liaison to ORI.
A copy of Form 6349, covering the previous year, will be automatically sent to all PHS awardees by the Office of Research Integrity each January.
If federal regulations require, as in the case of alleged misconduct in research, the Dean will, on or before the date the investigation begins, notify the Office of Research Integrity (ORI), within the Department of Health and Human Services, or other appropriate agency, of the circumstances and of plans to conduct an investigation.
The Awardee promptly shall promptly notify CIRM of the results of any investigation and any administrative, civil, or other action taken by any funding agency, the Office of Research Integrity, the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare, the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP), the Awardee itself, any other institution, or any law enforcement agency concerning a charge of research misconduct made against an Awardee concerning the Awardee’s research activities.
