TORSIONAL VIBRATION ANALYSIS. The analysis shall include calculations of the natural frequencies, location of all critical speeds within the entire speed range of the engines, and an estimate of the maximum vibration stresses encountered within this range. All terms and formulas used in the development of this analysis shall be explicitly indicated. The torsional critical speeds shall be checked in accordance with IACS requirements. The results of the analysis shall ensure that each assembled system, which includes the diesel engine, coupling, reduction gear, and shafting and propeller shall be free of objectionably (“barred ranges”) critical speeds due to torsional vibration over the complete range of operation from 10% below idling speed to 10% above the maximum engine speed rating. If the Contractor’s analysis indicates that there are critical speeds in the operating range, the COR shall be immediately notified with documentation of the problem and recommended solution.
