Surface Smoothness Sample Clauses

Surface Smoothness. The surface course, upon completion of final rolling, shall be smooth and true to grade and cross-section. When a 12-foot straightedge is laid on the surface parallel with the centerline, the surface shall not vary more than 1/8 inch from the straightedge. When the 12-foot straightedge is laid on the surface transverse to the centerline between the crown and edge of pavement, the surface shall not vary more than 1/4 inch from the straightedge. Low or defective areas shall be immediately corrected by cutting out the faulty areas and replacing with fresh hot mixture and compacting the area to conform to the remainder of the pavement. Testing for plan grade conformance and surface smoothness shall be preformed by the Contractor in the presence of a representative of the City Engineer. Tests shall be made at intervals as directed by the City Engineer. The City Engineer may direct the contractor to diamond grind areas that are out of tolerance in lieu of above replacement.

Surface Smoothness. 36 The completed surface of all courses shall be of uniform texture, smooth, uniform as to 37 crown and grade, and free from defects of all kinds. The completed surface of the 38 wearing course shall not vary more than ⅛ inch from the lower edge of a 10-foot 39 straightedge placed on the surface parallel to the centerline. The transverse slope of the 40 completed surface of the wearing course shall vary not more than ¼ inch in 10 feet from 41 the rate of transverse slope shown in the Plans. 42 43 When deviations in excess of the above tolerances are found that result from a high 44 place in the HMA, the pavement surface shall be corrected by one of the 45 following methods:
Surface Smoothness. 1. The Contractor will test finished surface of each asphalt concrete course for smoothness, using a 10 foot straightedge applied parallel to and at right angles to centerline of paved areas
Surface Smoothness. The second sentence in the fourth paragraph of this section is deleted and replaced with the following: The completed surface of the wearing course shall not vary more than 1/4 inch from the lower edge of a 10-foot straightedge placed on the surface parallel to centerline.
Surface Smoothness. Check surface tolerance as specified in Section 1047.3(h)4.
Surface Smoothness. 3.14.1 The finished surfaces of the pavement shall be uniform in appearance, free from irregularities in contour and texture and shall present a smooth-riding surface. Smoothness evaluation applies to all hot mix asphalt concrete roadways receiving 1.5 inch or more in plan (compacted) thickness of HMA pavement. Tests for conformity with the specified crown and grade shall be made by the Contractor immediately after initial compaction. Any variation shall be corrected by the removal or addition of materials and by continuous rolling. The finished surface of the pavement, when measured with a 10-foot straightedge, shall not vary more than 1/4 inch for the surface course and 3/8 inch for the intermediate course measured perpendicular and parallel to the centerline. If, in the opinion of the Engineer, the surface visually appears wavy, but meets the surface tolerance test with the 10-foot straightedge, the Engineer reserves the right to additionally test with the use of Inertial Profile Equipment which records cumulative vertical deviations per unit length using a statistic called International Roughness Index (IRI). The City of Manchester upset limit for IRI is set at 135 in/mile using similar equipment that NHDOT specifies in their Quality Assurance HMA projects. After the completion of final rolling, the smoothness of the course shall again be tested; humps or depressions exceeding the specified tolerances shall be immediately corrected by removing the defective work and replacing with new material, as directed by the Engineer. This shall be done at the Contractor's expense. Skin patching will not be permitted. When profile corrections are required, the Contractor shall use one or more of the following corrective methods:

Related to Surface Smoothness

  • Dewatering 4.7.1 Where a part of a site is affected by surface water following a period of rain, thus rendering some areas unsafe for productive work, consistent with the Employer’s obligations under the OH&S Act, all non- trades employees shall assist in ‘dewatering’ their own work site or area if it is so affected. Such work to be paid at single time rates. Productive work will continue in areas not so affected.

  • Road Surfaces (1) Grade, shape, crown, and/or outslope surface and shoulders.

  • Watering C.10.1. The Contractor shall water lawns, flowers, shrubs, and trees to provide for moisture penetration to a depth of 7 centimeters. If natural precipitation is sufficient to fulfill this requirement, the Contractor may request the COR's permission to suspend watering to avoid too much water in the soil.

  • Wet Weather In the event of wet weather, work in the open will continue until the particular work in hand can no longer be done safely and efficiently. Whilst it is raining, employees will be required to: Continue to work under cover or relocate to alternative work under cover, on site. Obtain materials and services for employees working under cover where there is only minimal exposure to inclement weather. When required, perform emergency and safety work. In addition, work on unexpected breakdowns, which can be corrected in limited time duration. Should a portion of the project be affected by wet weather, all other employees not so affected shall continue working in accordance with award conditions, regardless that some employees may be entitled to cease work due to wet weather. If a halt to productive work occurs due to inclement weather, the parties agree that employees may be relocated to other unaffected sites. Where the above steps are not possible, affected employees may be required to attend tool box meetings, work planning sessions or skills development activities, all of which will count as productive time for payment purposes.

  • Vegetation No trees or other vegetation may be removed from the site without prior approval from the Town, except in accordance with Section 4 above and pursuant to the Annual Plan.

  • Drainage Systems (1) Clear culvert inlets, outlets, and sediment catching basins.

  • Groundwater The groundwater shall not be degraded as a result of the waste maintained at the facility.
