Common use of Surface Smoothness Clause in Contracts

Surface Smoothness. 36 The completed surface of all courses shall be of uniform texture, smooth, uniform as to 37 crown and grade, and free from defects of all kinds. The completed surface of the 38 wearing course shall not vary more than ⅛ inch from the lower edge of a 10-foot 39 straightedge placed on the surface parallel to the centerline. The transverse slope of the 40 completed surface of the wearing course shall vary not more than ¼ inch in 10 feet from 41 the rate of transverse slope shown in the Plans. 42 43 When deviations in excess of the above tolerances are found that result from a high 44 place in the HMA, the pavement surface shall be corrected by one of the 45 following methods:
