Faculty Travel Funds and the Faculty Scholar Program This Article is divided into two sections: A) the Travel Fund, and B) the Faculty Scholar Program. Other support opportunities normally offered through Colleges or through informal funding such as grants and other one-time funds are not part of this agreement. Purpose. The purpose of the Faculty Travel Fund is to provide faculty with an opportunity to apply for support for necessary travel to conduct scholarly work, to attain increased knowledge or skills to improve teaching, or to acquire necessary materials, skills, and/or information necessary for curriculum development or University program development. The Faculty Travel Fund is open to all faculty regardless of rank, tenure or appointment status.
PROFESSIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT. Employees seeking short-term time off or flexibility with their schedules to take classes at UVM or another educational institution shall make a request in writing to their supervisor, who shall review and approve or deny requests based on the business needs of the department. Decisions shall not be unreasonably denied. Business need may be a factor in determining whether or not a denial was unreasonable.
PROFESSIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT. A. The School Committee will pay the cost of in-service courses sponsored by the School Committee. B. The School Committee will pay the reasonable expenses including fees, meals, lodging and/or transportation incurred by teachers who attend School Committee approved workshops, seminars, conferences or other professional improvement sessions. The Superintendent will place all convention and conference information received at the Central Office in the school mailboxes not later than 24 hours after it has been received. C. The working arrangement of the present Academic Review Board will remain in effect, and also determine the appropriateness of the items listed in Clause A and B with regard to lateral and vertical changes on the Basic Salary Schedule. Effective the 2003-2004 school year, no more than 15 in-service credits approved by the Academic Review Board shall be applicable to the salary scale after a Master’s Degree is earned. Once a teacher has earned his/her Masters degree, they can apply up to, but no more than, fifteen (15) additional in-service credits which are approved by the Academic Review Board to the salary schedule for purposes of movement on the salary schedule. D. An academic review board of teachers, administrators and School Committee members will be formed in order to review and rule on requests by professional staff members for accreditation of work and projects done outside regular academic institutions and in in-service educational programs. The Academic Review Board shall review sabbatical leave of absence projects and make recommendations to the Superintendent of Schools concerning same under provisions of Article XIV of this contract. The composition of said Academic Review Board shall be: ● 4 Classroom Teachers, To be selected by the PR&R Committee ● 1 Administrator, To be selected by the Superintendent ● 2 School Committee members ● 1 Superintendent of Schools or designee The decision of this Academic Review Board shall be final and not subject to appeal to the PR&R Committee. The Academic Review Board will meet during September and elect a Chairman who will be responsible for calling all other meetings. E. Effective the 2002-2003 school year, the parties agree to form a committee of teachers and administrators that will meet at least once per month to discuss professional development and curriculum issues. Eastern’s Faculty Scholars Program is an important means by which the University assists teaching faculty in their ongoing dedication to scholarship. All members of the teaching faculty and librarians are encouraged to apply for the Faculty Scholars Program summer salary awards and the professional opportunities that they provide.

Incentives to pursue professional growth opportunities shall be offered, such as, but not limited to; stipend/honorarium, PDPs, graduate credits at a reduced cost or no cost to the educator, and/or the negotiated hourly rate. The Committee will, upon request, provide the Association with pertinent documents or materials which will assist the Association in developing intelligent, accurate, informed and constructive educational programs subject to reasonable cost limitation. D. The School District will offer one (1) graduate level course per year that will help Administrators earn PDPs at no cost to them subject to funding. E. 1. Administrators shall earn twenty-six (26) PDP’s for attending the Summer Institute Professional Development.

  • Professional Development 9.01 Continuous professional development is a hallmark of professional nursing practice. As a self-regulating profession, nursing recognizes the importance of maintaining a dynamic practice environment which includes ongoing learning, the maintenance of competence, career development, career counselling and succession planning. The parties agree that professional development includes a diverse range of activities, including but not limited to formal academic programs; short-term continuing education activities; certification programs; independent learning committee participation. The parties recognize their joint responsibility in and commitment to active participation in the area of professional development.

  • Professional and Education Leaves (a) Leave of absence with pay or without pay may be granted to employees to attend professional and educational meetings, courses, or other events which may be judged beneficial to the employee's professional development, especially as it relates to her responsibilities with the Employer.

  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATIONAL IMPROVEMENT A. Both the Board and the Association encourage teachers to seek professional improvement. In order to assist teachers in extending and improving their skills the following plan will be implemented. B. All Teachers will be encouraged to earn a Masters degree or coursework toward additional certification that is in the field of education and within a teacher's discipline, or in an area that is beneficial to the school. C. The Board will pay teacher's expenses for undergraduate and/or graduate credits, specialty and additional endorsements under the following conditions. 1. In allocating budgeted funds priority will be given to the teachers in a “masters” program and those teachers who need to complete coursework for certification. 2. All courses must be approved, in advance, by the Superintendent. Courses for recertification purposes must be approved in advance by the certification committee and the superintendent. The teacher shall receive a written reply from the Superintendent within ten (10) days of application for course approval (See Appendix D). 3. Each teacher will be eligible for up to six (6) semester hours of credit or, if enrolled in a matriculated, organized program, 12 semester hours of credit for undergraduate will be paid if part of a graduate program or graduate courses per contract year. The Superintendent reserves the right to request intent to take courses prior to final budget preparation. Failure to communicate such intent at the time of the Superintendent’s request may jeopardize course reimbursement due to a lack of funding. 4. The administration will pay in advance the cost of the course. Presentation of evidence of satisfactory completion of the course (A grade of B or better) is the responsibility of the teacher. In the event the course is not completed or not completed satisfactorily, the teacher will refund the payment received in advance and in accordance with Appendix D – attached. 5. Teachers who resign shall not be eligible for reimbursement after the date of resignation Teachers who have been reimbursed for any course work toward securing a masters within the last two (2) years of employment shall be required to continue their service to RSU # 78 for an additional two (2) years (twenty-four months) or will be required to reimburse the district the cost associated with Masters courses taken prior to departing, Such reimbursement to the district shall be remitted via payroll deductions as arranged between the District and employee, unless the failure to continue employment is due to illness, disability, death, or reduction of position. 6. Reimbursement will only be for tuition and fees. It will not include reimbursement for mileage, books and other expenses unless the teacher is required to take the course by the administration.

  • Professional Development Leave A. Policy. Professional development leave shall be made available to employees who meet the requirements set forth below. Such leaves are granted to increase an employee's value to the University through enhanced opportunities for professional renewal, educational travel, study, formal education, research, writing, or other experience of professional value, not as a reward for service.

  • Professional Development and Training The Company shall pay for or reimburse the Executive for any reasonable professional development or training.
