Principal Accounting Officer’s responsibilities. 2.1 The Department’s Permanent Secretary, as Principal Accounting Officer for the Department’s arm’s length bodies, is accountable to Parliament for the issue of any grant-in-aid to the Birmingham Organising Committee and is also responsible for ensuring arrangements are in place to: ● monitor the Birmingham Organising Committee’s activities on a continuous basis; ● address significant problems in the Birmingham Organising Committee, making such interventions as are judged necessary; ● periodically carry out an assessment of the risks both to the Department and Birmingham Organising Committee objectives and activities; ● inform the Birmingham Organising Committee of relevant government policy in a timely manner; and, ● bring concerns about the activities of the body to the full Birmingham Organising Committee Board; requiring explanations and assurances that appropriate action has been taken.
