Contract of carriage. an agreement signed by the consignor or consignee of cargo with the carrier on the trans­ portation of the cargo from the place of departure to the place of destination according to the route. Contracts of carriage are subject to international conventions and other agreements (e.g. the CMR Convention for road trans­ port) and, in the case of domestic transport, to local law.
