Care of Equipment. The Equipment may only be used in a careful and proper manner. The Student shall keep the Equipment in good operating condition, allowing for reasonable wear and tear. The Student shall immediately notify the School’s IT Department if the Equipment is not in good operating condition or is in need of repair. The School maintains a service contract covering the Equipment. Indemnity of School for Loss or Damage: The undersigned are financially responsible for repairs due to negligence or willful destruction. The undersigned are financially responsible for accidental damage exceeding the cost of the purchase price. The Student agrees to properly care for the Equipment as outlined in the Student/Parent Handbook and shall not deface the Equipment. A Student who defaces the Equipment by affixing stickers, writing on it, etc. will face disciplinary consequences. If the Equipment can be restored to good condition, the Student will be required to do this and will be issued one demerit. If the Equipment is permanently defaced, the Student will be issued a minimum of three demerits and will be required to restore the Equipment to good condition to the extent possible. Because we would not be able to issue permanently defaced Equipment to another student, her parents will be required to purchase the Equipment at the pro-rated price if the Student withdraws before her graduation. Right of Inspection: The Student shall on demand make the Equipment available to the School’s IT Department as necessary for purposes of inspection, maintenance, repair, upgrading, and/or software installation during the School’s normal business hours. Loss: The Student assumes all risks of loss of the Equipment and agrees to return it to the School in the condition received from the School, with the exception of normal wear and tear. Warranty: Assumption High School honors HP’s warranty on all Tablet PCs. The School is not responsible for any damage or defect that does not fall within the scope of the manufacturer’s warranty. The warranty is voided if anyone other than the AHS IT Staff members open the case and attempts to service it. Entire Agreement and Modification: This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between the parties. No modification or amendment of this Agreement shall be effective unless in writing and signed by both parties. This Agreement replaces any and all prior computer use agreements between the parties. Disclosures: The Student and her Parent/Guardian hereby agree to these policies and regulations. Incidents happening off of the NHS campus must be reported to the police by the parent and a copy of the report be brought to the school for verification. • If the student deliberately damages or continues to show careless behavior with the device, the school will repossess the laptop. Damage • Students and parents will be held financially responsible for any and all damages determined to be as a result of neglect. It is important to use extreme caution when transporting the device. Music, Games or Programs • Music and games may not be downloaded or streamed over the internet if they are in violation of copyright laws. • All software loaded on the system must be approved by Middlebury Community Schools • Violation of this policy will result in repossession of the device Deleting Files • Students will not delete any folders or files that they did not create or that they do not recognize. Deletion of certain files will result in a computer failure and will interfere with the student’s ability to complete classwork, may affect student’s grades, and result in repossession of the laptop. • Changing restricted settings on the computer will result in immediate repossession. Unauthorized Access • Access to another user’s account or computer is considered unacceptable and a violation of the Acceptable Use Agreement. Liability • Student/Parent is financially responsible for the replacement cost of the device or its accessories if damaged or stolen. If concerned about liability, then the student/parent may consider purchasing a Product Protection Plan for device replacement purposes. • Middlebury Community Schools is not responsible for any damage or defect that does not fall within damages resulting from the scope use of the manufacturer’s warranty. The warranty device, which includes, but is voided if anyone not limited to: home service interruption, spread of viruses to other than the AHS IT Staff members open the case personal computers and attempts to service it.
