Independent Medical Judgment definition

Independent Medical Judgment means a free and impartial decision made by a physician. The physician must have the authority to order the release of the individual. The physician must have personally interviewed the patient and attempted to explain the physician's role to the patient. The physician must have personally reviewed the clinical record and taken reasonable steps to assess the accuracy of such information relied upon in the decision. The physician shall not be subject to any personal conflict of interests. Such decision shall reflect the information utilized in support thereof, shall be made in writing, and the writing shall be signed and dated by the physician.
Independent Medical Judgment means in the laboratory, the performance of only board-certified pathologists to make independent medical judgment in the diagnosis and treatment decisions related to clinical laboratory tests.
